A longer life: Behind our repairs services

We talk often about our commitment to making clothes that will last for generations, and to support their longevity further we offer expert repair services. Alongside garment care, repair is central to keeping clothes in our wardrobes for decades, even generations. We understand that mishaps like snags, pulls, and holes happen, alongside everyday wear and tear, so our repair services are on hand to keep your favourite Untouched World pieces in great shape for many more years to come.

Artisans on hand

The skilled artisans who are based in our local workrooms aren’t just masters at making clothes from scratch, they’re also experienced in a range of mending skills. Their intimate understanding of each detail of the garments we make means they’re uniquely qualified to know exactly what the best solution is for each repair.

Mending Mondays

Mending Mondays take place on the first Monday of every month at our flagship Christchurch store. It’s an opportunity for our customers to drop by with their Untouched World garments and chat to our talented production manager, Fi, who is in-store to offer repairs and advice on how best to care for garments in future. To date, we’ve fixed all sorts of issues from tears to missing buttons, all with the intention of prolonging the life of the clothes we produce.

“Not only will I get another 10 years out of wearing it, but being shown how to look after it better and darn future holes means I can now fix it myself,” says one happy Mending Monday customer, who came in to have their much-loved jumper repaired. It’s a joy not only to repair treasured items but to share our knowledge so our community is better equipped and feels confident to make their own repairs in the future. But of course, we will always be on hand if you prefer to leave it to us.

Repair request service

Alongside Mending Mondays, we offer a repair request service for those who aren’t local to Christchurch. Simply get in touch with our Customer Support team who will guide you through the repair assessment process. Once we have all the information, we can provide an estimate for repair and return shipping upfront.

Our skilled artisans and technicians are available for repairs including fixing seams, replacing buttons or zippers, patching small holes and mending tears. They will always do their best to restore your items to its original condition so you can continue to wear and cherish it for years to come.

Plans for the future

We believe that repair skills are essential as we work together to create a more sustainable path forwards. As such, one of our goals for 2024 is to share our knowledge and educate our community on how to do their own repairs from home. We will be working on a new mending video series so that anyone, anywhere can learn to tackle their own repairs with confidence. We’ll be sure to update you as we can tell you more about when we’ll be sharing this resource online.

In 2023 alone, we repaired 453 garments, some of which had already been worn for over a decade. We’re proud to continue this work and extend the life of yet more well-loved Untouched World items.

Repair is one of the many efforts we make to transition to the circular economy as a brand. Read about the other ways we are putting circularity into practice on our journal.
